143 years, still in the family
Turvey’s began in 1883 as a Sheffield tobacco shop and has stayed in the same family through every chapter since — furs, fashion, the Blitz, and finally furniture. Six generations on, Neil and his son Alec run the showroom, and the name above the door is still ours.
Samuel Turvey opens a tobacco shop on Devonshire Street, Sheffield.
The family turns to the fur trade, then fashion & millinery in the centre of Sheffield.
The Sheffield Blitz destroys the shop; after the war the family rebuilds in Rotherham.
Turvey’s settles at 45 Sheffield Road — its largest showroom, and our home today.
